Canberra Roller Derby League (CRDL) is a roller derby league based in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). We play under the roller derby code established by the international governing body, Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).
CRDL affirms WFTDA's gender statement, which states "an individual who identifies as a trans woman, intersex woman, and/or gender expansive may skate with a WFTDA charter team if women’s flat track roller derby is the version and composition of roller derby with which they most closely identify."
This statement makes clear that as a WFTDA league, CRDL is a place for women, as well as gender expansive skaters (such individuals who identify as non-binary, genderqueer or gender-non-conforming) and any other gender identities who most closely identify with women’s flat track roller derby. CRDL also welcomes all genders to participate in various official positions, from referees to non-skating officials.
First established in 2008, CRDL has been holding public games since 2009. In 2019, CRDL comprises of skaters split into our four home teams and referee crew: Black ‘n’ Blue Bells, Brindabelters, Surly Griffins, Red Bellied Black Hearts and Team Zebra.
In addition, a squad of dedicated and skilled skaters are chosen to represent the league in a squad known as the Vice City Rollers (VCRs). The VCRs represent our league in both Australian and international competitions, playing under the VCRs name in A-level competitions, and Vice City Betamax (VCBs) in B-level competitions. CRDL’s third representative team is the Capital Brawlers, who play at a B/C-level in local tournaments.
