We have services and supports to help Canberrans make a complaint, raise a concern or recover from the impacts of crime. We are a safe space. Our services are free and confidential.

Protecting the rights of LGBTIQA+ people

Whether you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual, transgender, intersex, queer, questioning, or asexual, you have the right to equal opportunity. It is against the law for someone to treat you unfairly because of your sexual orientation or gender identity.

You can raise concerns or complaints about discrimination or vilification with us. You can talk to us anonymously or confidentially while we work out the best way to address your concern.

ACT Public Advocate

We help people who deal with systems like mental health, child protection, youth justice, and disability services. We can:

  • Tell you about your rights and how services should treat you
  • Talk with you about your options and work with you to get solutions
  • Help you to get a lawyer or other supports.

ACT Children and Young People Commissioner

We help to protect and promote the rights, safety and wellbeing of children and young people. We:

  • Listen to children and young people about challenges they face

  • Teach other people about the rights of children and young people 

  • Use what we have heard and try to make the ACT better.
