Carers ACT

At Carers ACT, we're dedicated to supporting all unpaid carers in the ACT, including those in the LGBTQI community. Carers are partners, spouses, children, family friends, or neighbours who provide assistance to someone living with a disability, ageing, mental health issues, chronic illness, or terminal illness.

Carers play a vital role in offering unpaid support with daily activities such as housework, transport, healthcare, meals, personal care, and emotional support.

While caring can be deeply rewarding, it also brings challenges such as financial strain, social isolation, health issues, stress, and exhaustion. It’s essential for carers to receive the support they need to maintain their own health and wellbeing.

Carers ACT offers a wide range of services to support carers, including:

  • Practical support like short-term replacement care
  • Information and referrals
  • Counselling and support groups
  • Educational workshops
  • Social and therapeutic activities
  • Guidance on navigating the NDIS, My Aged Care, and mental health systems
  • Advocacy to ensure carer-friendly policies

We collaborate with industry and government to make Canberra a more supportive environment for all carers.
