Communities at Work

Communities at Work is Canberra’s is one largest not-for-profit community organisation, and we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and respectful values-based organisation.

We employ over 660 staff, have over 100 wonderful volunteers working with us, and operate a ‘surplus-for-purpose’ philosophy, which means we invest every dollar right back into the community.

What Communities at Work Do

We work to build a resilient, sustainable and socially inclusive community, and provide a range of high-quality services to support positive educational outcomes, assist in alleviating hardship, enhance quality of life and lead to positive social change. These include:

  • Children’s Services (early education and care, before and after school care, school holiday programs and family day care and in-home care).
  • Seniors and disability services (social groups and life skills day programs)
  • Community transport
  • Food, clothing, crisis support and housing for people experiencing hardship
  • Registered Training Organisation (Centre of Professional Learning and Education)
  • Galilee School (supporting vulnerable young people for whom the mainstream schooling environment has struggled to deliver positive outcomes)
  • Community development
  • Venue hire (Tuggeranong, Gungahlin and Denman Prospect)
