Uniting NSW.ACT

Uniting NSW.ACT is responsible for the social justice, community services and chaplaincy work of the Uniting Church in NSW and the ACT. We provide inclusive care and support for people through all ages and stages of life, with a focus on people experiencing disadvantage and vulnerability. Our purpose is to inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice. We celebrate diversity and welcome everyone exactly as they are. Whether or not you practise any particular faith, we’re here for you.

We’re committed to making a rainbow of difference in aged care.

As part of our Rainbow of Difference project, we’ve developed an App that enables aged care providers to create environments where older LGBTI people can feel safe, respected, and supported.

The Rainbow of Difference project is a ground-breaking, multi-faceted learning strategy and solution, designed by Uniting in partnership with UTS and funded by the Department of Health, in consultation with LGBTI people.

  • It provides inclusive solutions that empower LGBTI people to better manage their care as they grow older, and to be active participants in decision making.
  • It equips all aged care organisations and care teams with tools to ensure safe, inclusive, high-quality care for LGBTI people.

The Mosaic App provides LGBTI people with a platform to make decisions in advanced care planning and inclusion of their family of choice in the care process. The platform also provides LGBTI people with information about aged care organisations who provide safe, inclusive care, so they can make informed decisions and plan their ageing.

Developed using the insights gained through the Rainbow of Difference project, Mosaic is free to download through the Apple App Store and Google Pay (search for ‘Mosaic LGBTI’).

Mosaic helps to provide optimal, meaningful and inclusive aged care by:

  • Equipping staff with inclusive tools to apply learnings to their practice
  • Supporting providers to assess and market their safe, inclusive, high-quality care environments through one simple platform
  • Assisting providers to make changes that improve care and reach LGBTI individuals, such as building an inclusive learning culture to shape skills and increase confidence of staff in delivering safe and inclusive care.
